About the Website
‘What Netflix Doesn’t Tell You’ is an interesting name. It could have multiple meanings, but in this case, it means the misinformation spread by Netflix series about the law, in particular. That’s right, I am targeting all of your favorite shows such as, Suits, How to Get Away With Murder and the Lincoln Lawyer. All of these shows portray the law differently. They use the actual information of the law, add some drama and humor and it completely changes. By trying to make information fit the story line, this ultimately ruins the concept of the law. Imagine: There is a dramatic scene where the coworkers leave the office for some drinks and relaxation, when all of a sudden, they get an anonymous phone call. The music fades, the lights dim, and someone answers the phone. It turns out to be a past client threatening to kill them. This is not even close to what the law is. This does not happen in real life.
This website was created for the purpose of raising awareness and informing people, especially the youth, about the law. If the youth gauge their interest for law from Netflix, this can become a major problem, as it is not accurate. As a result, I decided to create a website to help them understand what law actually is in the real world, not in a virtual world. This website helped me as i gained new knowledge of the law. Research helped me fully understand the seven types of law found on the website.

My website focuses on seven types of law: criminal, corporate, family, political, human rights, international and public law. Each one having its own article found on the bottom of the page, where these articles fully explain what that specific law is, providing examples and much more. The information included was directed to be informative, and straight to the point to gain all the necessary information. I can ensure you that after reading these articles you will be fully aware of the different law types.
Without INVESTIN's assistance, I never would have been able to create this website and educate others. INVESTIN, an organization, organizes virtual or in-person courses with different professions. I took the law course over the summer of 2022, and I never imagined that I would learn so much while having the time of my life. The articles' whole content is based entirely on the notes I took throughout the camp and the PowerPoint presentations that were given to us after the program was over. Attending these classes is highly advised since they provide you an in-depth understanding of the subject at hand and give you the opportunity to try out several professions so you can ultimately decide what you want to study in college or university. Attending this experience would be among the finest experiences of my life.
Personal Project Journey
I first discovered my interest for the law on the 25th of November 2021. I remember this day very vividly as it was my first ever MUN conference. I was placed into the International Criminal Court. During the conference, we discussed about three cases where I was able to experience being prosecution defense and the jury, one position for each case. The first day of the conference I had my evidence ready, but I was anxious about how to prove my evidence and its validity. I was comforted by the President and the chair. They reassured me that I was going to do well during the cases. I could barely sleep from excitement, but also nervous as I would have to face a room with twelve people while debating on evidence in order to prove the defendant’s innocence.

I went in the next day. I felt shy and did not want to speak. One of my teammates went up on the podium and began to talk about our evidence, as I was too nervous to speak. One of the opposing councils went up and tried to strike one of the pieces of evidence that I wrote. Something inside of me sparked and I went up asking to answer her question. While debating and answering her questions my heart was racing. I’ve never felt this feeling in my life and I have never felt so much passion towards something. I continued the rest of the day talking with confidence and debating on my evidence, while fighting to strike the opposing councils’ evidence by showing that they are irrelevant or from an unreliable source. The case ended the same day and the next day came I was prosecuting a different defendant, my heart was racing the whole time and I couldn’t stop talking answering question, asking questions, giving speeches and I didn’t stop talking. Objecting on certain motions and trying to prove that the defendant was guilty. The last day of the conference, and although I was the jury, I still wanted to engage in debate. The closing ceremony came and I was anxiously waiting to hear the results. My president went up on stage and stated the results of the cases. I won both of my cases.
I went back home, told my mom about the conference and how engaged and passionate I was about these cases. She said and I quote, “The future Zumot lawyer.” You could tell she was proud. I went to my room and thought about the law, how I felt during MUN, and my previous passion of architecture. This conference made me rethink my decision. I went online and starting searching about the law. Researching and understanding all the types of law having great interest towards my research. A few hours passed but they felt like minutes. My dad came into my room and turned off the lights indicating I needed to go sleep. In bed, I thought about it and I was talking to myself saying that I need to experience more aspects of the law before I changed my mind.

Throughout the Grade 9’s school year, I kept attending MUN’s being chosen as an advocate in various court committee each time. Winning most of my cases and or being chosen as best advocate. Fast forward to May of 2022 where the Head of Personal Project told us that we needed to start brainstorming ideas for our personal project, she said that we should consider our hobbies interests and choose a topic I am passionate about. The first thing that popped up in my head was the study of law. I was allocated a supervisor and we were talking about what could my product be and how I would navigate it. The first thing I told my supervisor was that I am attending a course in England during the summer about the law, and I wanted my personal project to be revolving around this experience.
We came up with the idea of a website to educate the youth about the law and inform them about the law. I found a catchy and interesting name and I came up with “What Netflix Doesn’t Tell You.” As many people take their information and build their interest of the law from Netflix although it is an unreliable source, I decided to make a website talking about all the important aspects of each type of law to educate and inform people, especially the youth, about the law.
Fast forward to a few months and I finished my summer experience. This was without a doubt the greatest experience I have ever attended. I was interested in all the session trying to learn, ask questions and fully understand each type of law. I came back to Jordan and I told my parents. No more architecture, I am going to study law.
I started writing my articles intending that each article would be two to three pages long, but my notes would not allow me to do so. I decided on making each article about five pages, in detail, about all the things I have learnt with additional research to parts I was unable to write down during the time of the course. I finished my articles and began to work on the website. Seeing the pictures and seeing how the website came together was fascinating. I was proud of my product. I reread my articles and, in that moment, I fully realized what I was meant to be in the future. A powerful lawyer.
I have never in my life had this much passion towards something. The product is now fully done, but my journey is not. I will continue to grow my knowledge and passion of the law during my final years in school and in college. This is the beginning of a long road, but I am extremely happy I was able to find this road that will lead to me accomplishing my dreams.
About the Author
Hello, my name is Sanad Zumot and I am a student in the 10th Grade at Amman Baccalaureate School. I am the youngest of three boys and have a younger sister. I grew up in a competitive household where I prioritized my studies and academics. This enabled me to become self-sufficient and rely on myself academically. As a result, I would study and complete my homework, tasks, and projects on my own. Because of my independence, I was able to travel to England alone. Although I was nervous, I knew I could handle it because I was able to handle myself in my own country, so why wouldn't I be able to handle myself in another? My parents were there for me every step of the way, and I never doubted their support, but I learned to rely on myself when I was younger, and that has stuck with me to this day. The independence I gained enabled me to travel to England and study law. Without these courses, I would not have fully discovered my passion for the law, as I was debating whether this was the right career path for me prior to the courses. After taking these classes, I was certain that I wanted to study law in the future.
I grew up where I was always striving to be the best in my class, which put a lot of pressure on me to excel in all subjects. My parents always encouraged good grades and expressed their displeasure when I received a low grade, which motivated me to work harder each time. I thought they were mean at the time, but now I realize that this will ultimately help me get good grades and attend the college of my choice. This also helped me focus on my subjects and understand each one thoroughly, allowing me to shape what subjects I like and dislike. This environment of always striving for excellence, attending a private school, and growing up with many family friends and family members who are lawyers who assisted me with all of my questions enabled me to fully comprehend the law. As a result, when I was watching the popular Netflix show 'Suits,' I was surprised by how the show presents the concept of law to the world. As a result, the title of my website, "What Netflix Doesn't Tell You," was inspired by this experience. Furthermore, this name would pique the audience's interest while also providing information about what the website is about, making it unique.
